VMA Half Marathon Championship - 6 Sep 09

The results from Sunday's half marathon are available via the Results/Championship link above.

A big move from Andrew Edwards with a brilliant half marathon. Paul Twining moved up an age group but has just returned from holidays and did not perform to his usual standard. Some great performances. Charles Chambers, Andrew Edwards in M55, Barry Brooks M65, Tony Berry M70, and Lavinia Petrie W65 with a new Australian Record.

Interesting - our numbers were exactly the same as last year.

2008 AV-VMA Half Marathon Championships

Sunday, 7th September 2008

With near perfect conditions prevailing we had several records broken in our last event of the Winter season.

  • Ron Peters ,visiting from Queensland, broke the Australian Record in the M55 when he ran 73.06 beating the record previously held by John Gilmour. He actually finished in the top 30 in a field of younger athletes from AV.
  • Stacey Van Dueren, Coburg Venue smashed the W50 record which has stood since 1985 in running 83.14.
  • East Burwood stalwart Bob Lewis M80 broke Ken Matchett's Victorian Record with 2.00.11.

A total of 64 VMA athletes turned out for the event led home by Paul Wilson (Knox) with a performance of 74.27. Stacey Van Dueren led home the females.

We had 64 finishers which is the same as last year. It is still disappointing that some members are still not wearing the uniform. All AV athletes have to wear uniforms for official competition and the same applies to us.

Results are published on the 'VMA Championships' web page.
